Rules & Conditions Of Entry
These rules and conditions of entry apply to the Australian Trials of the Karaoke World Championships in 2012.
By entering this competition entrants are bound by these ‘Conditions of Entry’.

The organisers of KWC Australia reserve the right to determine an entrant’s eligibility over and above these Conditions of Entry. No correspondence will be entered into. All decisions will be final.
1. Who can enter
1.1. All entrants must be, at the time of entry into the competition (and subject to the entry conditions & requirements below) -
a) 18 years and over;
b) An Australian Citizen (this does not include permanent residents);
c) A solo and amateur performer
1.2. An amateur is defined as someone who meets ALL of the following criteria –
a) Does not sing for a living or in a professional capacity more than once a week, regardless of whether or not they have a day job;
b) Does not have a signed contract as a singer, does not have a manager and does not have a recording contract;
c) Does not have online profile portraying themselves as a professional singer. The organisers of KWC Australia reserve the right to make the final decision regarding online profile including, but not limited to, websites and social media, over and above the amateur criteria
1.3. If an entrant meets the above criteria but performs occasionally, used to perform or has a CD release -
a) They cannot enter the competition at a venue that is hosting the competition where they have performed in the last twelve (12) months (singing karaoke and jam nights excluded);
b) They cannot have previously signed a recording deal, attained national profile my way of a solo career or as a member of a band or have had an extraordinary performance career;
c) If they have a CD or recordings available to the public, they must have paid for the entire production themselves, i.e. it is not the result of a recording contract
1.4. Employees (as per definition below) of the following are not eligible to enter the competition -
a) B&B Masters Enterprises Pty Ltd or Karaoke World Championships Australia State Co-ordinators
b) Participating karaoke companies
c) Employees of participating venues cannot enter the competition at the venue where they work. They can enter at another participating venue. Previous employees of a participating venue must have left employment of the venue by 31st December, 2011 to be eligible to enter at the same venue.

1.5. Direct Family Members (as per definition below) of employees (as per definition above) cannot enter the competition where their family works. They may enter the competition at another participating venue.
Definition of Direct Family Members – Includes direct family members, defactos, married partners, fiancées & fiancés, boyfriends, girlfriends and anyone who lives in the same household (whether they are related or not).
1.6. Previous Contestants – The following previous contestants are not eligible to contest the 2012 competition -
a) Those who competed in the Australian National Grand Final over the past three years (2009 – 2011)
b) Those who have won any Australian National Grand Final and represented Australia at the world finals

2. Entry Conditions
2.1. All entries are subject to the competition’s full Conditions of Entry. If an entrant is unsure of their position, they must contact KWC Australia via www.kwcaustralia.com.au for verification;
2.2. Contestants may enter at any participating venue during the competition series until they have won a heat. Once they have won a heat, they may not enter the same competition at another venue whilst the competition is still in progress at the venue where they have won a heat;
2.3. Once a contestant has won a venue final they will immediately secure their place in a State Final. They may not enter the competition again at venue level at another venue;
2.4. If a contestant is unsuccessful in a venue final, they may enter at another participating venue once their initial venue competition is over and they are no longer in the competition;
2.5. Venues may require a minimum attendance of contestants during the heats. It is the entrant’s responsibility to check with their karaoke operator regarding individual venue requirements;
2.6. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any contestant whose manner, or that of their associates, is disrespectful towards other singers, co-ordinators, sponsors and organisers of the event. No correspondence will be entered into.

3. Entry Requirements
3.1. All entrants must be eligible to obtain an Australian passport should they be crowned ‘KWC Australian Champion 2012′.
3.2. All entrants are responsible for ensuring they are fit for national and overseas travel and have no apparent reason for being ineligible to travel or for entry into another country. Proof may be required.
3.3. The organisers reserve the right to make the final decision regarding an entrant’s eligibility over and above these conditions of entry. Entrants may be asked to sign legal documents and provide proof of eligibility.
3.4. All issues regarding an entrant’s eligibility must be addressed, clarified and cleared 7 days prior to State Finals. Proof of claim will be required.
3.2. All entrants are responsible for ensuring they are fit for national and overseas travel and have no apparent reason for being ineligible to travel or for entry into another country. Proof may be required.

4. Australian Prize Package
4.1. 1st prize in the Australian Grand Final will include a return economy airfare from the winner’s nearest capital city to Helsinki, Finland with 5 night’s accommodation to represent Australia & contest the Karaoke World Championships 2012 with AUD$2000.00 spending money. Accommodation and airline will be at the discretion of the organisers.
4.2. The winner must purchase a valid Australian passport (if they don’t already have one) and be available for travel to attend the world finals – 28th November – 1st December, 2012. Actual arrival and departure dates to and from Australia will depend upon flights and will be outside of these dates.
4.3. If the Grand Final winner is not available they will forfeit their prize and will incur all charges associated with changing and cancelling their travel documents. Provided there is time upon finalisation of details regarding the original winner, the runner up will take their place and will be subject to the same conditions. The winner must travel on an Australian passport and will be required to provide KWC Australia with proof.
4.4. The winner will be required to purchase travel insurance and provide KWC Australia organisers with proof.
4.5. The winner will be responsible for all costs that are not offered as part of their prize including, but not limited to, travel costs to and from all airports, travel insurance, food, drinks and any additional travel outside prize offered, including but not limited to, any costs incurred during their trip to compete as Australia’s representative at the Karaoke World Championships 2012.
4.6. Any additional travellers to the Karaoke World Championships 2012 will travel entirely at their own expense.
4.7. Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. Venue final winners are required to attend their respective State Final. State Final winners are required to attend the Australian National Grand Final. Entrants who do not attend their respective finals will forfeit any prizes not already presented to them.
4.8. The Australian Grand Final Winner is required to attend & represent Australia at the Karaoke World Championships 2012.
4.9. All details and conditions of prizes provided by Capital Karaoke are at the sole discretion of Capital Karaoke. The Organisers accept no responsibility regarding these prizes.
4.10. All Grand Finalists (excluding QLD) will receive one (1) weekend travel and accommodation package to the Gold Coast or Brisbane to compete in the Australian National Grand Final on Saturday, 28th July, 2012. Travel departure and arrival points and accommodation is at the sole discretion of KWC Australia organisers. All Grand Finalists must be available for travel between 27th July – 29th July, 2012. Winners are responsible for their own travel costs to and from all departure and arrival points and any other ancillary costs that are incurred that are not offered as part of their prize including, but not limited to, food, drinks and external travel. If the State Final winner is not available, they will forfeit their prize and will incur any charges associated with changing travel documents. Provided there is time upon finalisation of details regarding the original winner, the runner up will take their place and will be subject to the same conditions. Prize is not transferable for cash. State Final winners are required to attend the Australian National Grand Final.
4.11. The winner of the QLD State Final will receive $300.00 cash in lieu of the weekend package awarded to the interstate Grand Finalists. Weekend packages are not transferable for cash.
4.12. Grand Finalists are permitted to have one (1) guest only stay with them, at no extra charge, in their room during their stay for the Grand Final. Any costs incurred, including but not limited to, travel, meals, drinks, tickets & external travel are solely their own responsibility. Any other people travelling with the Grand Finalist will do so entirely at their own expense.
4.13. Some prizes will be awarded as vouchers. It is the responsibility of winners to look after these prize vouchers. Lost or mutilated vouchers cannot be replaced under any circumstances.
4.14. All prize winners are responsible for the cost of transporting their physical prizes home.

5. Competition Format
5.1. Heats will be held at various venues across Australia. Variations may occur at certain venues including, but not limited to, the number of heats conducted, the number of entrants selected at each heat and the number of representatives sent to the State Final. All variations, including but not limited to, the number of representatives sent from each venue to a State Final, are at the sole discretion of KWC Australia organisers only.
5.2. One (1) winner of each state final will be eligible to contest the Grand Final.
5.3. Contestants may sing any song of their choice during the heats and venue finals. It is the sole discretion of each venue and karaoke operator as to how many songs will be performed in their venue final.
5.4. It is the sole discretion of the organisers as to how many songs will be performed by each contestant at each State Final and Australian National Grand Final.
5.5. It is the organiser’s decision as to how often a song can be sung by different contestants in any Venue, State or Grand Final. Having reached this level, contestants should have a small repertoire of songs at the ready and register their songs early.
5.6. Venues and karaoke operators may conduct their heats and finals in a manner that suits their own venue. At all times they are requested to adhere to these ‘Conditions of Entry’ & KWC judging criteria & conduct their heats and finals in a fair manner.
5.7. All contestants are responsible for their own travel & accommodation costs to and from all heats, venue finals & state final.
5.8. Contestants are permitted to use their own karaoke discs as long as they are original discs, are clean and not scratched. Pirated discs, digital formats and digital formats moved to disc will not be accepted. CDG & VCD formats are permitted. No responsibility will be accepted by the organisers for formats not being available in all venues and at all finals. Please check with your karaoke operator as to their operating system. No other formats will be accepted. All tracks must have the words appearing on the screen.
5.9. Participating karaoke operators have the right to refuse the use of a contestant’s disc or song format if they feel it is in violation with pirating laws or doesn’t play on their system.
5.10. No responsibility will be accepted for contestants’ discs at any stage of the competition.
5.2. One (1) winner of each state final will be eligible to contest the Grand Final.
5.3. Contestants may sing any song of their choice during the heats and venue finals. It is the sole discretion of each venue and karaoke operator as to how many songs will be performed in their venue final.
5.4. It is the sole discretion of the organisers as to how many songs will be performed by each contestant at each State Final and Australian National Grand Final.

6. Judging Criteria
6.1 It is recommended that contestants dress to suit their song choice at all final levels so as to maximise judging points.
6.2. Judging will be based on vocal ability & expression, presentation (dress), stage presence & charisma plus entertainment value.
6.3. It is recommended that contestants support the venue where they have won their heat. Extra points may be awarded at venue final level to those who have supported the venue and their in house karaoke show more than once. Some venues may impose a minimum weekly attendance requirement. It is the responsibility of the entrant to check individual venue details with their karaoke operator.
6.4. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
6.2. Judging will be based on vocal ability & expression, presentation (dress), stage presence & charisma plus entertainment value.
6.3. It is recommended that contestants support the venue where they have won their heat. Extra points may be awarded at venue final level to those who have supported the venue and their in house karaoke show more than once. Some venues may impose a minimum weekly attendance requirement. 7. Karaoke World Championships requirements
7.1. The Grand Final winner will be required to have 4 songs prepared for the Karaoke World Championships. These songs must be lodged in preferred performance order within 7 days after the Australian Grand Final. These songs can be from any category and are the choice of the Grand Finalist. Song choices may be subject to a time limit by the organisers of the Karaoke World Championships due to time restraints. Once submitted, the song choice and preferred performance order cannot be changed by the finalist.
7.2. The Grand Final winner will be required to adhere to the conditions of entry of the Karaoke World Championships. Prize money at world finals may be subject to the local tax laws of the host country.
7.3. If the Australian representative is crowned Karaoke World Champion 2012 and is awarded a trip to KWC 2013 as a prize, they will be required to attend KWC 2013.
7.4. If the Australian representative is awarded a recording deal at the world finals, they will be required to sign a contract from Finland and may be required to travel to Finland at a future date.
7.5. The Australian winner will be required to make themselves available for media requests for the duration of their reign.
7.6. The Australian winner will be required to sign a contract upon winning the Australian Grand Final giving B&B Masters Enterprises P/L full managerial rights at the standard industry commission rates for the term of their reign as Australian Karaoke World Champion and/or Karaoke World Champion for management of any and all offers received during their reign as Australian Karaoke World Champion and/or Karaoke World Champion, including their recording deal, if offered as a prize, should they be crowned Karaoke World Champion. No guarantee will be given that any further offers will be made as a result of participating in or winning the Karaoke World Championships or from the signing of the contract.
7.7. The Grand Final winner will be permitted to use their own karaoke discs at the Karaoke World Championships as long as they are original discs. CDG & VCD formats are permitted.
7.2. The Grand Final winner will be required to adhere to the conditions of entry of the Karaoke World Championships. Prize money at world finals may be subject to the local tax laws of the host country.
7.3. If the Australian representative is crowned Karaoke World Champion 2012 and is awarded a trip to KWC 2013 as a prize, they will be required to attend KWC 2013.
7.4. If the Australian representative is awarded a recording deal at the world finals, they will be required to sign a contract from Finland and may be required to travel to Finland at a future date.
7.5. The Australian winner will be required to make themselves available for media requests for the duration of their reign.
7.6. The Australian winner will be required to sign a contract upon winning the Australian Grand Final giving B&B Masters Enterprises P/L full managerial rights at the standard industry commission rates for the term of their reign as Australian Karaoke World Champion and/or Karaoke World Champion for management of any and all offers received during their reign as Australian Karaoke World Champion and/or Karaoke World Champion, including their recording deal, if offered as a prize, should they be crowned Karaoke World Champion. No guarantee will be given that any further offers will be made as a result of participating in or winning the Karaoke World Championships or from the signing of the contract.
7.7. The Grand Final winner will be permitted to use their own karaoke discs at the Karaoke World Championships as long as they are original discs. CDG & VCD formats are permitted.
8. Indemnity
8.1. By entering this Competition you agree not to hold the Organisers liable for any loss, damage, illness, death, injury or claim whatsoever and to abide by the conditions of entry. Entries remain the property of the Organisers.
8.2. 2nd & 3rd Grand Final cash prizes will be finalised within 14 days of National Grand Final. Spending money awarded to 1st place will be finalised closer to departure date after all documents including, but not limited to, all travel documents, passport, travel insurance, etc. have been processed.
8.3. Email address on entry form is optional and may be used for future marketing.
8.4. By entering the competition you agree to your image, sound and performance from any association of your involvement of KWC being broadcast in any form at any time, both now and in the future, and you will not claim any performance rights or fees. Recordings & photographs remain the property of the organisers & photographers.
8.5. By entering the competition you acknowledge that the organisers of the Karaoke World Championships Australian Trials are not responsible for any changes to the organization, international final destination and prizes by Oy KWC Organisation Ltd – Finland. The Australian organisers reserve the right to change the Australian Trials prize package details to suit any unforeseeable changes made by Oy KWC Organisation Ltd & their sponsors.
8.6. The organisers also accept no responsibility for changes in prizes provided by sponsors and reserve the right to change the Australian Trials prize package details to suit any unforeseeable changes made by sponsors.
8.7. The organisers accept no responsibility for prizes offered by venues and operators outside of the Australian Trials prize package.
8.8. The official international organisers of the Karaoke World Championships are Oy KWC Organisation Ltd – Finland.
8.9. The official Australian partners of Oy KWC Organisation Ltd are B&B Masters Enterprises Pty Ltd.
8.10. All decisions made by the organisers are final. No correspondence will be entered into.
8.11. The ‘Conditions of Entry’ are subject to change without notice. All changes will be posted on the official Australian Trials website – www.kwcaustralia.com.au
8.2. 2nd & 3rd Grand Final cash prizes will be finalised within 14 days of National Grand Final. 8.8. The official international organisers of the Karaoke World Championships are Oy KWC Organisation Ltd – Finland.
8.9. The official Australian partners of Oy KWC Organisation Ltd are B&B Masters Enterprises Pty Ltd.
8.10. All decisions made by the organisers are final. No correspondence will be entered into.
